This spectacular excursion to San Antonio de los Cobres follows the exact same iconic route as the famous Train to the Clouds, offering the unique advantage of making strategic stops along the way to explore the region in depth.

We begin our journey from Salta city, heading west toward Campo Quijano, a charming town nestled at the foot of the mountain range. Next, we will enter the breathtaking Quebrada del Toro canyon to visit Santa Rosa de Tastil, one of the most important pre-Inca archaeological sites in the region, where we will explore its ancient ruins and local museum.

Continuing our ascent into the high-altitude Puna, we will reach San Antonio de los Cobres, the picturesque mountain town where both overland tours and the train route meet. Here, you will have time to see the local church and school, but the true highlight is the local craftsmanship. Native women keep an ancestral legacy alive, weaving sheep and llama wool using traditional techniques (loom, two-needle, and five-needle knitting) to create beautiful garments like sweaters, blankets, beanies, and gloves. It is a wonderful opportunity to see the weavers at work and purchase authentic regional products directly.

Finally, we will head to the breathtaking La Polvorilla Viaduct, the most iconic and photographed engineering marvel of the Train to the Clouds route. After marveling at this colossal structure, we will begin our return journey to Salta along the same route.
